Step-by-step in Forge
Navigation: Inventory → Inventory and Manufacturing → Production
- Open the Component: Search the component catalogue and open the required Component.
- Choose its tracking rule: Select serial tracking for individual identities or lot/quantity tracking for bulk material.
- Receive inventory: Use the inventory receipt flow to capture serials, supplier lots, internal lots, and quantities.
- Add it to the BOM: Open the Product BOM, select the Component, and enter the required quantity.
- Test consumption: Run a small operation and scan a serial or enter a quantity to confirm genealogy is recorded.

Rules to remember
- Normal Forge Work Orders still create one finished-unit serial and Production Task per output unit.
- A serial number batch groups finished-unit serials; it is not a quantity-only production mode.
- Material genealogy is strongest when lots, serials, and consumption events are captured at the correct Station.
