How the workflow connects
This journey connects the following stages. Complete the required checks at each stage before moving forward.

Create Product
Create the Product with a unique name of at least two characters and SKU of at least three characters.

Choose Product Family
Assign the recommended Product Family when available.

Add optional Variants
Add at least two Variants when the same Product has meaningful configurations.

Cover every Variant
Add a shared BOM or provide BOM entries for every Variant.

Use shared BOM rows for every Variant and Variant rows only to override matching quantities.

Configure a serial number template when a specific finished-unit format is needed.
Step-by-step in Forge MES
- Create the Product with a unique name of at least two characters and SKU of at least three characters.
- Assign the recommended Product Family when available.

- Use shared BOM rows for every Variant and Variant rows only to override matching quantities.

Rules to remember
- A Product without Variants requires a shared BOM.
- A Product with Variants needs a shared BOM or a BOM for every Variant.
- If Variants are used, a Work Order must select the required Variant.
- The serial number template is optional, but unit serial generation before release is not.
Configure for the client
- Match product taxonomy, item codes, BOM governance, units of measure, revision control, and serial or lot tracking policies to the client's master-data standards.
- Validate the configured behaviour with approved test data in the target environment before production use.
Ready when
- Product name and SKU are unique.
- Variant use is deliberate and consistent.
- Every Product configuration has BOM coverage.
