How the workflow connects
This journey connects the following stages. Complete the required checks at each stage before moving forward.
- 01Conditional
Create identifier definition
Open Process & Engineering → Identifier Management and select Create Identifier Range → Create Manually.
Provides the controlled input for the next stage. - 02Conditional
Choose source and type
Enter the required Name and choose Range, Template, External, or Manual as the source.

Define identifier pool
For a Range source, select the identifier Type and Range or File Upload. Enter required Start and End values for a generated range, review its count, and select Create.

Open Product Identifiers
Open Production → Products, open the Product detail, scroll to Product Identifiers, and select Add Identifier.

Configure Product mapping
Select the identifier definition, enter the required Identifier Key and Display Name, and choose Generated or External.

Set assignment behaviour
Choose On Task Creation, On Task Start, or At Route Step; enable Auto-generate and Must be Unique when required.

Verify mapping
Select Add Identifier and verify the Product table shows the expected source, timing, and linked range.
Step-by-step in Forge MES
- Open Process & Engineering → Identifier Management and select Create Identifier Range → Create Manually.

Rules to remember
- Identifier range Name is required; keep each operation within the identifier limit shown in the deployed Forge MES environment.
- Generated identifiers are created by the system; External identifiers are scanned or entered by an operator.
- Product Identifier Keys are stored in uppercase.
- At Route Step timing requires configuration in the Routing Editor.
Configure for the client
- Match Routings, Operations, Station eligibility, Line assignments, work instructions, validation rules, and identifier formats to the client's approved manufacturing process.
- Validate the configured behaviour with approved test data in the target environment before production use.
Ready when
- The identifier definition is Active and exposes the intended values and availability.
- The Product mapping has the correct key, type, source, and assignment timing.
- Auto-generation and uniqueness match the identifier's business rule.
