How Fynd helped Azorte turn every shopper's phone into the checkout counter

How Fynd helped Azorte turn every shopper's phone into the checkout counter

What does it take to remove the checkout line from a retail store without adding a single kiosk or app? Not a hardware upgrade and not a loyalty gimmick. The real challenge is to let shoppers pay for their items without waiting for a counter and for the retailer to record payments correctly in POS, inventory and GST systems without creating a second system.

Azorte aimed to solve this with Scan & Go, a self-checkout experience that works entirely on a shopper’s own phone. Fynd helped build the systems to make this reliable at store scale.

The problem: The checkout line was undoing every good decision a shopper made on the floor

Azorte’s stores had already succeeded in getting shoppers to pick items and decide to buy. But the friction appeared at checkout. Several issues caused delays:

The checkout bottleneck

Even after deciding to buy, shoppers had to wait for a free counter, causing many to give up.

No app, no ask

Any solution requiring downloads or sign-ups would lose customers immediately. It had to work as soon as someone scanned a code.

No new hardware

Azorte did not want kiosks or extra scanners. The shopper’s phone alone had to be enough.

No island systems

A checkout system disconnected from POS, inventory, GST and payments would create a messy second system.

The solution: A checkout that lives entirely in the browser

Azorte teamed up with Fynd to build Scan & Go, a self-checkout that runs in a simple mobile browser. Shoppers scan a QR code in-store, open a lightweight mobile site, scan items as they shop and pay on their phone. Fynd’s backend systems keep everything running smoothly, without adding any new devices to the store.

Starting from the shopper, not the backend

Every part of Scan & Go was designed from the shopper’s perspective, easy enough to use with no tutorial.

Built on proven, open tools

Fynd used cloud-ready open-source tools and contributed improvements back.

API-first, from day one

The app is made of services communicating via APIs designed before coding, so Scan & Go connects directly to Azorte’s existing systems.

Item capture aware of store location

Scandit handles barcode scans, while store QR codes and geofencing ensure shoppers only see their current store’s inventory.

Automatic promotions and payments

The cart connects to Fynd’s Promotion Engine for discounts and settles payments through the RPSL gateway.

Order and inventory sync

RPOS manages orders and pricing, while SAP POSDM updates inventory and finance behind the scenes.

Compliance built in

Shopper login uses Fynd Auth with OTP and GST compliance is integrated into checkout.

A checkout shoppers don’t have to think about

The most costly moment in retail is often a quiet one - a shopper ready to buy but not willing to wait. Scan & Go removes that moment for Azorte’s stores: no lines, no counters, no app downloads, just the phone shoppers already carry.

For Azorte, this is not just a checkout upgrade. It is one less reason for customers to leave.
