How the workflow connects
This journey connects the following stages. Complete the required checks at each stage before moving forward.

Open Packaging
Open Packaging & Shipping and select Packaging.
Provides the controlled input for the next stage. - 02Conditional
Configure product container hierarchy
Open Packing Configuration, select the Product, and define its product-specific container type. Product, Name, and Code are required; enter an alphanumeric Code within the length accepted by the deployed Forge MES version.

Create a work-order container
Leave Child Container Type empty for a leaf that binds finished-unit serials directly, or select a child to build the Device → Box → Carton → Pallet hierarchy.

Review the generated UID
Return to the Packaging Dashboard, select Create Container, and choose the Product, required Container Type, and required Work Order ID.

Open the generated UID to review device count, weight and dimensions, linked Work Order, label state, and History.
Step-by-step in Forge MES
- Open Packaging & Shipping and select Packaging.

Rules to remember
- Packing configurations are product-specific.
- A leaf has no child container type and binds serial numbers directly; parent configurations accept the selected child type.
- Create Container remains disabled until Container Type and Work Order ID are selected.
- A UID template is optional; when omitted, Forge MES uses the default UID format.
- Pallets are added to Shipments, which are managed separately in the Shipments module.
Configure for the client
- Match packaging hierarchy, label templates, container rules, shipment gates, ASN needs, and genealogy retention to the client's logistics and compliance requirements.
- Validate the configured behaviour with approved test data in the target environment before production use.
Ready when
- Product-specific container configuration is active.
- Device → Box → Carton → Pallet hierarchy matches the physical flow.
- Container is linked to the correct Work Order.
- UID, device count, label state, and History are visible before closure.
