How She Built the Fastest Growing Supplements Brand in India | Shilpa Khanna Thakkar, Chicnutrix

How Chicnutrix Built A Women-First Wellness Brand Around Trust

Chicnutrix began with a problem the wellness industry often sells to women but rarely understands deeply: hair fall, skin confidence, ingredient trust and the pressure to look better, faster.

Shilpa Khanna Thakkar had already helped build Fast&Up, a sports and active nutrition brand, before Chicnutrix took shape. But Chicnutrix was not born from a trend deck or a category report. It came from a problem she was living through herself.

In this episode of Fynd Out With Ragini, Shilpa explains how a personal hair fall crisis led to the first product, why the brand was built specifically around women’s concerns, and how Chicnutrix now operates across more than 20 SKUs in skin, hair, PCOS and general wellness.

From Fast&Up To Chicnutrix: Learning The Business From The Inside

Before Chicnutrix, Shilpa was deeply involved in building Fast&Up. Her role was not limited to one glamorous founder function. She handled finance, cash flow, accounts, MIS, logistics, operations, HR, office setup and parts of marketing. She describes herself as a troubleshooter, the person who steps in when something is on fire and needs solving.

That background matters because Chicnutrix was not built only from a consumer insight. It was built by someone who already understood the operating machinery behind a nutrition business: cash flow, teams, logistics, product quality, compliance, consumer trust and distribution.

It also shaped her founder lens. Shilpa says a business cannot really be built alone. It needs co-founders, pillars and people who own different parts of the engine. That operating discipline later became important when Chicnutrix moved from one personal problem to a full wellness portfolio.

The Personal Problem That Became A Brand

Chicnutrix began with hair fall.

Shilpa says she visited multiple dermatologists but did not find a solution that worked for her. She was offered PRP and hormonal medication, but she did not want to go down that route. She remembers crying at work because of how much hair she was losing. That moment became the beginning of Chicnutrix.

Her question to the team was direct: if they could formulate so many nutrition products, why could they not create something for this?

A group of biotech PhDs came back with a formulation within a week. Shilpa became the first tester. That product eventually became Bounce, a hair-fall product she says remains one of the brand’s closest and strongest products, even if it is not always the top seller.

This is the part of the Chicnutrix story that makes the brand interesting. The product was not created because “hair fall” was a high-volume keyword. It came from lived experience. And because the first problem was personal, the brand’s women-first direction did not feel like a campaign. It became the lens through which the company was built.

Women-First Was Not A Marketing Wrapper

Fast&Up had a largely male, performance-driven audience. Chicnutrix was different from the beginning. The brand was built around women’s wellness concerns, not as an exclusionary idea, but because the first problem itself came from Shilpa’s experience as a woman.

That changes the product question.

Instead of asking, “What is trending in beauty?” the brand asks, “What real concern is affecting a woman’s confidence and daily life?”

That is why the Chicnutrix story is not just about supplements. It is about the emotional weight of hair fall, acne, pigmentation, dullness, PCOS and body confidence. In the episode, Shilpa explains that the team noticed how much confidence women lose when they experience hair or skin issues, and how deeply that can affect everyday life.

For a consumer brand, that is a powerful insight: the product is functional, but the purchase is emotional.

The Founder Is The First Quality Gate

One of the strongest parts of Shilpa’s founder philosophy is that she personally tests many products before launch. Her benchmark is simple: would she be comfortable giving it to herself and her family?

That sounds emotional, but in business terms, it becomes a quality control system.

Shilpa says Chicnutrix develops products with heavy R&D and even clinical trials. She also says that when there is pressure to reduce ingredient quality or compromise formulation for better margins, her answer is no.

This matters because wellness is a category where trust is slow to build and extremely easy to lose. A customer buying a hair, skin or PCOS supplement is not only buying a product. She is buying hope, consistency and safety.

That is why “product DNA” becomes a serious business decision. As the company grows, Shilpa says there is always pressure to increase margins, lower costs or imitate competitors. But her position is that the company vision and product DNA cannot be compromised.

The Founder Is The First Quality Gate

The Glutathione Debate: Brightness Is Not Fairness

One of the most important parts of the conversation is the distinction between skin brightness and fairness.

Shilpa explains that glutathione is often misunderstood as a skin-whitening ingredient. Her view is that it can support complexion, brightness, texture, pigmentation and dullness over time, but the goal should be healthier-looking skin, not chasing a different skin tone.

Later in the episode, she again clarifies that glutathione can improve clarity and texture, but should not be confused with “fairness.” The real benefit, in her view, is healthier, clearer and more radiant skin.

That positioning matters in India, where fairness-led beauty marketing has shaped consumer aspiration for decades. Chicnutrix’s challenge is not just to sell a supplement. It also has to educate the consumer on what the product should and should not promise.

The Problem With Instant Wellness

The episode also goes into the current obsession with quick results: IV drips, glutathione treatments, cold plunges, vampire facials and weight-loss shortcuts.

Ragini opens the conversation by pointing to the appeal of immediate results and the side effects that can come with quick fixes. She also brings up Ozempic and asks whether such treatments should only be used by people who genuinely need them.

Shilpa’s position is cautious. She says IV drips and similar treatments should not be seen as casual beauty shortcuts because they are high-dose interventions. In her view, instant visible change is not the same as safe or sustainable change.

She also says she would personally avoid IV drips because of dosage concerns, using a simple analogy: almonds may be healthy, but eating 200 almonds a day would not be.

That idea runs through the entire Chicnutrix philosophy: more is not always better. Faster is not always safer. And wellness should not become a shortcut culture.

Why Supplement Education Is The Real Category Battle

Shilpa is clear that supplements are not meant to replace food. They are meant to complement food and help fill gaps. She gives a simple example: if the body needs a certain amount of vitamin C, a person cannot realistically eat a hundred lemons a day. That is where the right supplement, in the right source and format, can help.

This is why Chicnutrix spends time on education, events, expos and consumer conversations. The brand is not only trying to sell nutrition products. It is trying to help consumers judge what is right and wrong in a market filled with claims.

That education gap is especially visible with Gen Z. Shilpa says younger consumers do not want to buy blindly. They want to understand the product, the ingredient story and the reason behind it. Sampling, label reading and education therefore become important parts of the brand’s approach.

Beauty From Within, But Without The Filter

The most interesting idea in the episode is that Chicnutrix is not trying to sell beauty as an overnight transformation. It is selling consistency.

The closing message of the episode is that real glow takes time, consistency and trust. Shilpa’s larger point is that science and empathy can live together, and that beauty is not a filter. It is something built from the inside out, every day.

That is a difficult message in a market obsessed with instant before-after results. But it is also what gives Chicnutrix its brand identity.

It is not saying: take this today and become someone else tomorrow.

It is saying: understand your body, support it correctly and build confidence over time.

Shilpa Khanna Thakkar is the co-founder and CEO of Chicnutrix, a women's wellness supplement brand she launched in 2019 after helping build Fast&Up, one of India's biggest sports nutrition brands. Chicnutrix was born from her own experience with sudden hair fall that multiple dermatologists could not resolve. Rather than accept PRP or hormonal medication, she asked her own team to develop a solution. The brand now has more than 20 SKUs across skin, hair, PCOS and general wellness categories.

Glutathione is an antioxidant that can improve the clarity and texture of skin over time, but Shilpa Khanna Thakkar said on Fynd Out with Ragini that this should not be confused with fairness. The benefit is healthier, clearer and more radiant skin. Some people may appear brighter over time because of improved skin health, not because the product changes skin tone. She draws a clear distinction between skin health and fairness, which she does not promote as a goal.

Biotin alone is not sufficient for hair support. Shilpa Khanna Thakkar explained on Fynd Out with Ragini that Chicnutrix's hair product Bounce includes biotin alongside 21 amino acids, which she describes as the building blocks of hair. The combination of nutrients working together is what drives effectiveness rather than any single ingredient. Her broader point is that trending ingredients are often discussed in isolation when the formula they sit in matters just as much.

Supplements work best when matched to a specific need, taken at the right time and in the right delivery method. Shilpa Khanna Thakkar said on Fynd Out with Ragini that timing, form and dosage all matter. For collagen, she suggests thinking about it around the age when the body's natural production starts to decline. For hair, a product needs more than biotin to be effective. Her broader principle is that supplements complement food and good habits but do not replace them, and should be chosen based on an actual concern rather than because an ingredient is trending.
