How Azorte ditched checkout counters with Fynd Scan & Go

Self-Checkout, Reimagined: Scan & Go for Azorte
Azorte wanted to let shoppers skip the checkout line entirely - no app, no extra hardware, just their own phone. Here's how Fynd built it.
Azorte's stores had the same problem every retailer with a till has: the checkout line. A customer picks out what they want, then stands around waiting for a counter to free up. It's the last thing standing between someone deciding to buy and actually buying, and it's where a lot of good intent quietly falls apart.
The brief Fynd got wasn't complicated to state, just hard to pull off: let customers check themselves out from wherever they're standing on the floor, on their own phone, without making them install anything first. It had to run in a plain mobile browser and feel instant. And it couldn't become its own little island - it needed to talk to everything Azorte already had running underneath: POS, inventory, GST, payments.
What shipped was Scan & Go - a self-checkout flow that lives entirely in the browser. A shopper scans a QR code posted in the store, lands straight on a lightweight m-site, scans the barcode on each item as they go, and pays from their phone. No app to download, no account to set up first, no extra hardware at the counter.
A few ground rules shaped how it got built:
Start from what the shopper actually experiences and work backward from there, not the other way around. The bar was self-serve enough that nobody needs a tutorial.
Build on proven, cloud-compatible open-source tooling, and contribute back where it made sense to.
The app is a set of loosely coupled services talking to each other over APIs, and those APIs got designed before a line of feature code was written.
Start to finish, the journey looks like this:
1. Pick items off the shop floor like normal.
2. Scan the “Scan & Go” QR code posted in-store.
3. Land on the m-site - nothing to install.
4. Scan each item's barcode as it goes into the cart.
5. Promotions apply themselves.
6. Pay, right there on the phone.
7. Pull off the security tags and grab the bag.
8. Walk out. No counter, no line.
Scan & Go runs on the Jio Commerce Platform, and rather than stand up a parallel checkout system, it plugs straight into what Azorte already had running.
Scandit handles barcode scanning; store-level QR generation and geofencing make sure a scan at one store doesn't accidentally pull up another store's inventory.
The cart talks to Fynd's Promotion Engine for store- and cart-level offers, bank deals and coupons, and settles payment through the RPSL gateway.
RPOS takes care of order posting, invoicing and pricing lookups. SAP POSDM quietly syncs inventory depletion and finance in the background.
Login runs through a dedicated Fynd Auth System over OTP, with GST compliance built into checkout rather than bolted on after.
Fynd CMS and Ajio CMS drive the storefront's theme and static pages; the whole cluster runs on GCP.
