Step-by-step in Forge
Navigation: Manufacturing → Production → Products → Components
- Open Components: Open the Product or component catalogue and select Components.
- Start a component: Select Create Component/Part or Create Components.
- Enter the identity: Complete the component Name, unique Code/SKU, unit of measure, and description.
- Select tracking: Choose serial tracking for individually identified parts or quantity/lot tracking for bulk material.
- Save the component: Select Create Component, then confirm it can be searched while editing a BOM.

Rules to remember
- BOMs reference Component records, so Components must exist first.
- Serialised Components require a valid individual identifier during consumption.
- Quantity-based Components are validated against the required BOM quantity.
