Couriers compare two numbers: the actual weight of your package and its volumetric weight, or how much space it takes up. You are charged on whichever is higher.
It is how much space your package takes up, expressed as a weight. The formula is Length x Width x Height in cm, divided by the courier divisor. The industry standard divisor is 5000.
When your parcel reaches the courier partner's hub, it passes through an automated sorter. The sorter scans the package, captures its actual weight and dimensions, and takes a photo. This is the source of truth for how the courier bills you.
